  • Euro Tunnel and Cross Border

Traveling via the Euro Tunnel was very easy. They have established a great system for travellers embarking to europe or the United Kingdom. Essentially, the cars are channelled well into a tram with two storeys. The tram than transports the vehicles via a tunnel which links the countries together. In any case, it was just 35mins of sitting in the car during the crossing. We were mainly playing games in the car with our kids and munching on our fries! For us, the cost of traveling from UK to france cost about 75 pounds and returning trip cost about 69 pounds. The cost difference is dependent on the period and time of travel. If there are available slots, the operators at the border check-in may also prompt you if you would like to board an earlier slot if its available. There are also shops within the Euro tunnel such as cafes, burger kings and shops selling Automobile Association products just in case if you will need to get some items for your travel. I bought some maps for italy, switzerland, france and germany. They really came in handy when my Gamin gave up on me!!

Strangely, when we initially entered the France border, there were no custom checks on us or our passport. The guy in the cabin waved us forward to just move into france without even looking at our passport. yeah, it did feel really awkward. But he was really not bothered about us entering France! That posed a bit of challenge when we were coming back to UK. This time the french border, asked us why did we not have any stamping at the start of our journey? He scrutinised our passport and made us look bad. Well, lesson learnt - next time, its better to demand a check!. Fortunately, we were stil given the stamps after we clarified what exactly happened during the start of the trip. While traveling from one country to the next, france to italy to switzerland, there were practically no border agency to check your passports, other than the toll stations and the gas stations!! =))
